railroad_crossingA notice to motorists who use Iowa Highway 144 near Grand Junction that road work is being done to smooth out the Union Pacific Railroad crossing.

Iowa Department of Transportation Highway Supervisor for Boone and Greene counties Jeff Vanderzwaag says DOT crews have been working with UP crews to completely replace the railroad tracks at the road crossing west of Grand Junction.

The goal is to make that crossing smoother for motorists to travel on.

While the project is ongoing, a detour route has been in place.  The suggested route is for motorists use US Highway 30, turn south onto 16th Street in Grand Junction by Casey’s General Store, then west onto Main Street and back south onto Iowa Highway 144.

Vanderzwaag notes that the project started on Monday and he anticipates it to be completed by Wednesday, August 20th.
