A free hazardous waste drop-off event is happening tomorrow in Jefferson.
All Jefferson residents are encouraged to drop-off their hazardous waste materials at the Greene County fairgrounds on Saturday, August 16th from 9-11am.
Accepted items includes batteries, oil-based paints, aerosol cleaners, fertilizers, gasoline and kerosene, fluorescent light bulbs, weed killers, motor oil and several other items.
Items that won’t be accepted includes appliances, asbestos, computers, electronics, fire extinguishers, latex paints, medications, propane tanks, radioactive materials, ammunition, joint compounds, explosives and dry cement mix.

The event is free and for Jefferson residents only.
Workers will be on hand to help direct people where to go for different items at the fairgrounds.
It will offered once a year by the Metro Waste Authority in Des Moines.
