greene county medical centerOne of the largest fundraisers of the year for the Greene County Medical Center Foundation is happening next week.

Foundation Director Hollie Roberts says they will be hosting their annual golf outing and auction will be on Friday, August 22nd at the Jefferson Community Golf Course.

She states that they have 24 teams competing in the four-person scramble tournament which is more than they had last year with 21 teams.  She comments that they also have 16 hole sponsors from area businesses and adds that any business or organization can still sign up to be a hole sponsor before the event next week.

During the golf outing, there will be competitions such as a longest drive for both men and women, longest putt and closest to the pin.  Roberts adds that there are also raffle prizes that people can win.  Registration for the tournament starts at 8:30am and the shotgun start will be at 10am.

There will be an evening meal sponsored by the medical center’s nutritional staff serving apricot glazed pork roast, almond green beans, wild rice and fruit cups.  Roberts points out that the meal will start around 5pm and people can come to just the evening meal, but must RSVP to Renee Dunne at the medical center.

The auction items includes tickets to the Iowa vs Iowa State football game, an autographed basketball from Iowa State University men’s basketball head coach Fred Hoiberg and 4 tickets to non-conference basketball games, an autographed football from University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz, four Iowa banners featuring two with individual football players, NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship banner, and an Iowa Wrestling Banner for the 2012 Olympics tryouts; and 2 tickets to the Eagles concert at Wells Fargo arena in September.

All the proceeds go back to the Foundation for its Capital Campaign for the expansion project and other equipment purchases for the hospital.  Last year, they raised $8,800 and are on track to do better than that this year.

Roberts talks about the overwhelming community support that this fundraising event receives.

“It’s an opportunity for the business leaders in our community to visit with them, talk to them about the project, and as always, we have the $4 million Capital Campaign going and it’s great to have that kind of financial support too.  And so, it’s just a great opportunity for everyone.”
