ADMSeveral Adel-DeSoto-Minburn student-athletes have taken advantage of off-season training by utilizing its weightlifting resources.

Football head coach Mike Wishner says they started their weight lifting programs during the first week of June and is pleased with the students’ participation.

He comments that on the first day, there were over 50 people at the weight room and since then, numbers have varied, but they still get several different athletes to come in on a regular basis.

Wishner talks about how weight lifting has changed recently and some of the benefits to improving your muscle strength.

“Weightlifting has really transformed from being a slow movement, pushing a lot of weight to how quickly you can move as much weight as you possibly can.  The injuries aren’t as severe (and) their recovery time is quicker.  There’s just a lot of benefits of doing that.”

As for the football athletes, Wishner points out that they have weight lifting programs designed for them and that some of the players get together on Tuesday and Thursday mornings after weight lifting to go over plays and work on drills themselves.

The first official team practices for football start next Monday, August 11th.
