To help student-athletes at the Greene County Schools, a shuttle has been used to transport them from after school practices to outlying communities around Jefferson.

Superintendent Tim Christensen says when Jefferson and Scranton combined, the district discontinued providing a shuttle.  Once East Greene started sharing with Jefferson-Scranton, a shuttle was provided to Grand Junction and Rippey.

At last month’s school board meeting, the Board decided to continue the shuttle service to Grand Junction and Rippey and reinstitute Scranton as part of the shuttle routes.

Christensen comments that by having a shuttle service, it would allow students especially at the middle school level to participate in athletic activities without having to worry about arranging transportation.

The shuttles would go to a designated location in each town and drop off students.  The service would only be provided after practices after school and the Board also approved paying two drivers between $5,500-$8,500 for that responsibility.

This program would be implemented for the start of the upcoming 2014-15 school year for the Greene County School District.
