ADMThe 2014 season for the ADM softball team has come to an end.  The Tigers lost to Clarke of Osceola 4-3 last night in Class 3A’s Region 8 title game in Winterset.

Rick Dillinger’s club led 3-0 through five and a half innings last night, but in the third time through the order, Clarke was able to put together better at-bats against Tigers’ ace Molly Jacobsen, eventually getting to her for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With the score tied at three in the top of the seventh, ADM then tried to retake the lead on a two-out single to left field by senior captain Caitlyn Gruening.  Unfortunately for Tiger fans, Gabi Glenn was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.

Then in the bottom of the seventh, Clarke’s Vanessa Bakley hit a two-out, 1-2 pitch from Jacobsen into the left center field gap, and Gabi Glenn was unable to make the diving grab.  That hit scored Indians’ flex player Mackenzi Otto from second base to win the ballgame, ending ADM’s season in heartbreaking fashion.

Libby Bemis was the winning pitcher for Clarke last night–she threw all seven innings, allows four hits and three runs, one of which was earned.  In a losing effort, Molly Jacobsen pitched all seven innings for the Tigers, allowing six hits and four runs, three of which were earned.

ADM got two hits from Caitlyn Gruening and a hit from Jessica Wyant last night.  Gabi Glenn also had a hit in the loss, blasting her first home run of the season in the top of the 5th inning.

In the first year under head coach Rick Dillinger, the 2014 ADM softball team ends its season with a record of 25-11 overall.
