Friday, July 11th

A deputy investigated a car-deer accident on U Avenue, just south of 240th Street. A 1998 Pontiac Bonneville being driven by Mark Samuel Kendall 17, of Rippey, was northbound on U Avenue when a deer ran onto the road and was struck by the Kendall vehicle. Mark Kendall was not injured but his vehicle sustained an estimated $2500 in damages.

A rural resident from the 1400 block of 265th Street came to the Law Enforcement Center to speak with a deputy about her retrieval of personal property that is being held by another person.

A deputy was dispatched to a reported motorcycle-pickup accident on 220th Street and Pioneer Avenue. A 2014 Ford F-150 pickup that was being driven by Lori Lynn Onken 52, of Carroll, Iowa, was eastbound on Highway 30 and attempting to make a left hand turn onto Pioneer Avenue when she was struck in the driver’s side door by a motorcycle that was attempting to pass her pickup. The motorcycle operator was Randy Wayne Perkins 49, of Luverne, Minnesota. No injuries were reported to Lori Onken, Randy Perkins or a passenger on his motorcycle, Klara Perkins. Randy Perkins was issued a citation for Unsafe Passing.

A deputy is investigating a burglary and theft of an estimated $50 in cash from the concession stand at the beach area of Spring Lake.

A deputy helped with traffic control at the bridge construction site east of Jefferson while a semi-tractor trailer driver that was attempting to proceed west through the bridge, decided that his load may be too wide to attempt the crossing. The deputy held the  westbound traffic while the semi backed from the bridge approach.

A deputy and a Jefferson animal shelter volunteer helped find the owner of a dog found near the Rippey Pipeline on the Raccoon River.

A deputy spoke with a 13 year old male in Scranton about his riding a small motorcycle on city streets without having a valid driver’s license, registration or insurance.

A deputy while on routine patrol checked an unoccupied vehicle near the intersection of Highway 30 and 25.

Saturday, July 12th

A deputy was dispatched to S Avenue near 210th Street for the report of cattle on the roadway. Upon the deputy’s arrival it was determined that a calf had been struck and killed by an unknown vehicle. The owner was advised and the cattle were put back into the pasture.

A deputy spoke with a resident in Churdan about a civil issue involving her personal property possibly being taken by a relative.

Dispatchers at the Greene County Law Enforcement Center were able to locate the owner of a dog that was found running at large at a rural residence in the 1900 block of 230th Street. The dog was held until the owner’s arrival.

A deputy while on routine patrol in Scranton was advised by the owner of a vehicle in the 700 block of State Street that his Chevrolet Tahoe was struck and received damage to the front passenger side quarter panel. An accident report was provided for insurance  purposes.

Sunday, July 13th

Two deputies were advised of a female that was reported to have taken 30 over the counter pills in an attempt to harm herself. The female was subsequently located and transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Grand Junction Rescue personnel.

A deputy investigated the theft of electrical power by a tenant from a rental property owner in the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction.

A deputy spoke with a female in the 1200 block of 245th Street about receiving prank calls on her cell phone. The cell phone application is called “Spoofy” and Verizon Services states there is no way to track the call back to its original maker.

A deputy was advised of an erratic and careless driver on Highway 30 westbound near Grand Junction. The vehicle and driver were later located at a residence in Grand Junction and questioned about his driving skills.

Two deputies responded to a reported single engine plane that had to make an emergency landing in a bean field north of 235th Street at the Jefferson Municipal Airport east of Jefferson. A home built experimental plane that is registered with the Federal Aviation Administration and was being flown by Dean Charles Zenor 55, of Lake City, Iowa, was taking off from the Jefferson Municipal Airport when due to atmospheric conditions he was unable to achieve the proper lift to keep the plane in the air. Dean Zenor and a passenger in the plane, Robert Dean Owens of Jefferson were not injured and walked away from the plane.

Deputies were out of position and were unable to locate a reported careless driver on Highway 4 near 260th Street.

A deputy spoke with the owner of a 4-wheel ATV in the 900 block of Stanton Street in Scranton about riding the ATV’s on city streets and on Railroad property.

A deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of Cedar Street in Scranton to help mediate a verbal dispute.

A deputy was unable to locate any cattle that were reported to be on the roadway at D Avenue and 130th Street.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all  defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
