Greene County completed a swing of four road games in four days with a non-conference victory Thursday night in Lytton vs. South Central Calhoun. The 8-1 win improved the Rams to 10-14 overall while the Titans fell to 13-12. Riah Nelsen picked up the complete game pitching win with seven innings of three-hit ball. He fanned nine batters while walking one and hitting one with a pitch.
Nelson also was strong at the plate with a solo home run, a SAC fly, and two singles. The homer was his third of the season and second in as many games. Jordan Challen singled three times and drove in a run, while Daric Whipple had two singles. Ales Rasmussen doubled and had one RBI, and Colton Fitzpatrick had a pair of base hits and he batted in a run. Jordan Hostetler added a single as the Rams totaled 12 hits.
Greene County broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team added three more in the sixth and one in the seventh inning. The lone run for the Titans came in the first inning.
The only game left on Greene County’s regular season schedule is a Wednesday, July 16 make-up date with Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opponent Nevada at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. JV is set for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow on KG98. The Rams open Class 3A district tournament play on Friday, July 18 vs. Harlan Community in Harlan.
