Greene County improved to 22-6 on the season after defeating Iowa Falls-Alden and Southeast Webster-Grand (Burnside) on Saturday in Stanhope at the South Hamilton (Jewel) tournament. The Rams advanced to the championship game vs. Interstate 35 (Truro) in Jewell, but heavy rain moved in and the title game was washed out.
The Rams had their hitting shoes on in both games, and the margins of victory were wide. The first game vs. the Cadets saw the Rams totaled 14 hits including three each from Kayla Mobley and Tressa Rasmussen. Emily Christensen and Marissa Promes each had two hits, while Emma Saddoris, Hannah Onken, Sydney Koch, and Carleight each had one. The Rams had doubles from Paup and Rasmussen, and the other 15 hits were singles. Onken and Rasmussen each drove in two runs with one RBI each by Mobley and Promes. IF-A was 18-5 entering the day and had been in the CLass 3A rankings much of the season.
Promes once again was dominant on the pitching rubber with a one-hit shut out vs. IF-A that included seven strikeouts and no walks. She is 18-3 on the season and now has 166 strikeouts this season to only 19 walks.
The Rams rolled by SEW-G on the strength of 18 hits and the pitching of sophomore MacKenzie Dennhardt. The game ended by the 10 run rule after five innings. Dennhardt allowed four hits and just one earned run. She walked no one and registered two strikeouts.
The Rams led SEW-G 11-0 after just two innings Hannah Promes, Christensen, and Saddoris doubled with the other 15 hits being singles. Hannah Promes, Saddoris, Onken, and Rasmussen all had three hits, with two from Christensen, and one each by Mobley, Marissa Promes, Paup, and Bailey Godwin. Saddoris . had three RBI with two runs batted in apiece for Marissa Promes, Onken, Hannah Promes, Paup, and Godwin.
The Rams play in Jefferson on Monday night vs. Nevada on KG98 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action. Coverage starts at 7:15 p.m. with first pitching scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
