A two-out seventh inning triple from Sydney Koch was followed by a Carleigh Paup single and the Greene County softball team won in Colfax on Monday night by a 1-0 count over Colfax-Mingo. The win was the first in seven tries in Colfax for head coach Tom Kennedy, who watched his team improve to 11-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and 17-5 overall. The Tigerhawks fell to 9-3 in the league.

Marissa Promes had another outstanding pitching performance with no runs, no walks, nine strikeouts, and she allowed just two singles.

The Rams had eight hits, but also hit into three double plays. Both teams had one error. In addition to the Koch triple, the only extra base hit of the game, Koch also singled and was the only player with more than one hit. Other Rams getting singles were Promes, Emma Saddoris, Kayla Mobley, Emily Christensen, and Hannah Onken.

Greene County plays on the road in Manson tonight vs. non-conference opponent Manson-Northwest Webster, is at Collins vs. CMB Wednesday, and at Rogers Park north of Ft. Dodge on Thursday vs. St. Edmond, before playing South Hamilton (Jewell) in Jefferson on Friday night. It’s right back on the bus Saturday morning as the Rams play at the South Hamilton tournament.
