The Perry Jayettes upset 15th ranked Winteset Monday night in RRC softball 5-2 in nine innings. Perry scored twice in the top of the 7th to fight back from a 2-0 deficit and then took the lead in the top of the ninth with three more runs. Emma Olejniczak picked up the win scattering 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. The Perry defense played one of their better games of the season by not committing a single error in the nine inning marathon.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the 7th, Perry started the rally with back to back base hits from Olejniczak and Alyssa Kruger. Following a Sidney Vancil sacrafice bunt, senior Lindsey Kunch delivered a two-out two run double to force extra innings. The Jayettes took control of the game in the ninth with RBI’s from Kunch, Julie Diw and Kylie Brandt. Kunch finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI, Diw pounded out 3 hits, while Whelchel, Rachel Kinney and Sidney Vancil all finished with two hits apiece. Perry outhit the Huskies 13-8.
The Jayettes are now 13-8 on the season and will travel to Carroll Wednesday night for another RRC road test.
