After several interviews and looking at the district’s financial situation, the Greene County School District decided to keep the activities director position in house.
At the school board meeting last week, it was decided that last year’s interim AD Dean Lansman is now the official man in charge of activities for the high school, while middle school principal Shawn Zanders will also be the middle school AD and Tony Beger will be the assistant AD in charge of event management.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says Lansman will continue to coach football and track for the upcoming school year but may have to look at different possibilities in the future. He talks about how Lansman feels taking over the AD responsibilities.
“Very excited about it. He’s just finishing up his athletic administration classes right now so that’s been his desire all along to obtain an activities director position. So this is right at what he’s pointing to in his career.”
Christensen comments that while Zanders doesn’t have official AD experience, he felt comfortable with his administrative experience could carry the responsibility of the middle school AD position.
“Been in administration for 19-20 years, so again (he) has a lot of experience with that and has coached. At the middle school level in particular, it’s a lot of scheduling of games and supervision of activities and obviously as a building principal you do a lot of supervision so (he) has experience in that.”
The School Board approved to pay Lansman an additional $12,000 and Beger an additional $4,000 with Zander’s pay yet to be determined.
Going forward, Christensen is hoping to keep this set up for the AD positions and make this a permanent change for the district.
