Bridge Accident

More information has been released about today’s bridge accident on Highway 4 south of Jefferson.

Greene County Deputy Sheriff Shane Monthei says at 10:05am this morning, a man was traveling south on Highway 4 when he fell asleep and drove his Chevrolet Trailblazer into the west embankment of the Raccoon River with his vehicle turned upside down.

He states that the Jefferson Fire Department were able to extract the victim from his vehicle and he was Life Flighted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with non-life threatening injuries.

Monthei notes that a seatbelt was used and the male subject was not thrown from his vehicle.

He talks about what each agency did when they responded to the scene.

“We utilized the Jefferson Police Department, they assisted with traffic control.  The (Jefferson) Fire Department helped extract the driver from the vehicle as did Greene County EMS helped with the assist of the driver.  Everybody worked together quite well.”

The individual’s name has not been released pending family notification.
