To kick off the celebration of Relay for Life of Guthrie County, Guthrie Center will be draped in the color purple starting this Sunday.
According to event chair Becky Secoy, the American Cancer Society will “paint the town purple” June 22nd through the 29th to show support for Guthrie County residents who have fought or are currently fighting cancer.
Secoy asks that area businesses and residents show their support in the fight against cancer by decorating their store front or yards in purple. The Relay for Life of Guthrie County will be available to assist in decorating for a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds benefiting the work of the American Cancer Society.
This year’s Relay for Life of Guthrie County will cap off this purple week ahead. Teams will participate in numerous fundraising events from noon to midnight at Guthrie Center High School’s track and field next Saturday the 28th.
Any Guthrie County residents who would like to participate in purple week can contact a couple of different Relay For Life of Guthrie County coordinators: Becky Secoy can be reached at 515-339-4223, or contact Gigi Nelson at 641-757-2830.
We’ll have more coverage of next weekend’s big event in the coming days.
