What was a tight game for 4-1/2 innings ended by the 10-run rule on KG98 on Monday night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson as Greene County was a 10-0 baseball winner over Colfax-Mingo. The Rams scored a run in the first without a hit, then did not score again until the fifth when nine runs ended the game with one out. The final blow was a three-run double down the right field line by junior Riah Nelsen. Sophomore Tyler Beger scored three runs and drove one in, and junior Dylan McConnell singled twice and had a run-scoring ground out. Junior Alex Rasmussen singled and had one RBI with junior Jordan Hostetler collecting an RBI on an infield single. Senior Wes Tipton doubled while sophomore Daric Whipple singled once and walked twice.
Junior Colton Fitzpatrick retired the first nine batters he faced and finish with a three-hit shut out. The right hander improved to 2-0 on the season as he struck out five, walked none and hit no one.
Greene County is 2-2 overall and in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams play next on Wednesday in Jefferson vs. CMB (Maxwell). The Tigerhawks fell to 0-4 overall and in the conference. C-M has been out scored 51-1 to start the season.
