Perry had been there before, only this time, they finished the deal. After two narrow substate final loses in four years, the Perry Bluejay soccer program punched the school’s first ticket to the State Tournament Saturday with a 4-0 shutout over Grinnell. Perry improves to 14-3 on the season and earned the number two seed in this week’s boys state soccer tournament. Perry will take on number 7 seed Clear Creek Amana in a 2:30 Thursday afternoon game at the Cownie Soccer Complex. “This year feels like a validation for our soccer program,” added Head Coach Gary Overla, “We have been so close and this program has worked hard to come so far that this would be the final validation for how far this program has come.” The Jays have accomplished the school’s first trip thanks to terrific defense all season. Perry’s shut out Saturday was their 11th of the season.
