Greene County SheriffIn light of a motorcycle accident earlier this week in Greene County, Sheriff Steve Haupert would like to go over some safety reminders with the public.

He says one of the most important safety precautions for motorcyclists is to always wear a helmet.  He knows that you aren’t required to wear one in Iowa, but he strongly urges anyone riding a motorcycle to do so to prevent any severe head injuries.

Haupert points out a safety tip for other motorists is to always be aware of low-profile vehicles like motorcycles because they can easily hide in your blind spot.  He also talks about another situation where its good to double check your surroundings.

“Oftentimes, motorcycle accidents involve someone pulling out from a driveway or a roadway and ends up that the motorcycle slams into the side of the vehicle.  Everyone (needs) to be cautious on both sides.”

He also reminds everyone to always travel the speed limit especially if you’re on a road that you’re not familiar with and always stop at stop signs and use caution when you’re ready to enter the roadway.
