A Stuart landmark will open its doors briefly this Sunday to show the community the progress of its restoration project.

Tom Smull tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Hotel Stuart will be open from 1 to 3pm this Sunday, and he invites area business owners and community leaders to stop by.

Smull gives us an update on the status of the hotel’s restoration.

“We’re substantially complete on the first floor, meaning that the walls are all restored, the floors, the ceilings (restored), the restrooms are in… So, like I said we’re substantially complete.”

Once Hotel Stuart is fully renovated, Smull discusses what his ownership group hopes to do with the space.

“We plan to have a restaurant on the main level and eventually have hotel rooms on the upper level.”

Smull says a grand opening will be held for Hotel Stuart once restoration is totally complete.  He expects opening to take place late this year or early 2015.
