Secretary of State Matt Schultz made his way around Iowa’s third district yesterday as he continues his campaign to try and become a U.S. Congressman.
One of the stops he made was in Stuart to meet with a few business owners and community members. Schultz also visited Raccoon Valley Radio in studio to share with area listeners why he believes his ability to balance budgets is what makes him stand out amongst his Republican competitors.
“I think what sets me apart is I’ve actually done this. I was a City Councilman in Council Bluffs and I cut a million dollars out of the mayor’s budget my first year. We cut the city tax levy every year I was on the Council, and so I’ve got a record of that. As Secretary of State, I’m returning more than $200,000 to the General Fund–that’s never done. So in the next five years, that’s a million dollars… I’m proud of that.”
With the primary election inside of a week away now, Schultz also discussed how he feels about his chances of receiving the Republican nomination.
“Well I feel like we’re gaining momentum. I really feel that people want somebody who is going to go fight for them, who is going to fight for a balanced budget, and somebody who’s going to fight to repeal Obamacare and replace it with free market solutions… those are the two biggest issues I’ve been pounding the drum for.”
