The annual Senior Awards Night was held in the theater at Greene County High School in Jefferson on Tuesday evening. Among the many scholarships and awards presented were Bernie Saggau and Ram of the Year honors.

TJ Lint received both awards while Thea Ballard also received the Saggau Award, and Allison Higgins and Kate Sandage received Female Ram of the Year honors. It’s the first time both the Saggau and Ram of Year have had multiple recipients at Greene County (Jefferson-Scranton prior to 2013).

Lint was an all-state and all-district football player for the Rams. He also is on the state qualifying 4 x 200 meter relay that runs later this week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Ballard played basketball throughout high school and was on the track and field squad as a sprinter until an illness ended her season early.

Higgins and Sandage are both state place winners in the running sports. In cross-country, Higgins led the 2013 Rams to a ninth place finish as a team in 3A, and she placed third individually, the highest state placing anyone running for a Jefferson-based cross-country program has had. Higgins also competed at the 2013 state track meet in the 3,000 meter run and has qualified in both the 3,000 and 1,500 later this week at the 2014 state meet.

Sandage was a member of the 3A fifth place shuttle hurdle relay a year ago, when she also qualified for state individually in the 100  meter hurdles. She anchors the Rams in the shuttle hurdle relay this year and they enter state competition ranked third in 3A. Sandage also is one of the top qualifiers for the 3A state meet in the 100 meter hurdles.
