School will soon be out for the summer and Perry’s Academic Cultural and Enrichment Services (PACES) program is gearing up for several different opportunities for kids in pre-K through 8th grade.

Director Mary Hillman says thanks to funding from several different sources, they’re able to provide services to kids who might not have something to do while their parents are at work.

“At the elementary pre-K through 5th grade learning center program, we’re open every day 6am to 6pm, so we cover a 12 hour period.  That is to support our working families.  Iowa is number three in the country of two person working families so we have a lot of people who have shift work, a lot of people that commute to Des Moines and they really need some place for their children to be, but being parents they are wanting something very engaging” says Hillman.

Hillman says this summer’s program is called Magic Summer Treehouse which includes several different topics.

“We’ll be doing pre-historic week with dinosaurs and events that will culminate with a trip to the botanical center and historical building.  We’ll be studying pioneers and cowboys.  We’ll be studying traveling to the ocean with dolphins, we’ll be studying the continent of Africa and lions and of course we’ll finish up the summer with Twister.  There will be just a culmination of great events going on” adds Hillman.

The program runs June 9th through August 1st and registration is now open.  For more information call 465-8264.
