Rabbit Tattooing and Poultry Pullorum Testing Is Today In Jefferson
Any Greene County 4-H or FFA’er wanting to show rabbits or poultry at this year’s county fair must have their animals tattooed or tested today.
Greene County ISU Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says they will be at the county fairgrounds starting at 8am this morning to conduct a final round of rabbit tattooing and poultry pullorum testing for animals.
Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds says each rabbit must have a tattoo for that youth to show at county fair. She adds that the tattoos are identification markers and so if a rabbit gets separated from its owner, then they know who to find because it will have a tattoo. She comments that for poultry, they are checking to make sure that the animals are safe to show at county fair.
4-H and FFA’ers were suppose to make an appointment to have either the tattooing or poultry testing done before today’s event, but they will also accept walk-ins.
This year’s Greene County Fair is from July 8th-14th.

A Fatal Crash Near Rippey Claims The Life Of One Person
Greene County Deputy Dave Kersey was in charge of the investigation and says around 2:43pm on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, Dawson Emergency Medical Services and the Rippey Fire Chief responded to a one vehicle accident on V Avenue between 330th and 340th streets near Rippey.
Kersey states that Edwena Joyce Roberts of Rippey was traveling northbound on V Avenue when it appeared that a deer had tried to enter onto the roadway and it looked like Roberts tried to swerve her 2003 Mercury from hitting the animal and caused her to overcorrect and she entered the east ditch and struck a culvert.
He adds that the 79 year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene and she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and her airbags did not deploy in the accident.
