A one vehicle accident yesterday claims a life in Greene County.

Deputy Dave Kersey who was in charge of the investigation says around 2:43pm, the sheriff’s office, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue Unit, Dawson Emergency Medical Services and Rippey Fire Chief Pete Johnston responded to a one vehicle accident on V Avenue between 330th and 340th streets south of Rippey.

Kersey states that Edwena Joyce Roberts of Rippey was traveling northbound on V Avenue when it appeared that a deer had tried to enter onto the roadway and it looked like Roberts tried to swerve her 2003 Mercury vehicle from hitting the animal and caused her to overcorrect and she entered the east ditch and struck a culvert.

He adds that the 79 year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene and she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and her airbags did not deploy.

Kersey comments that anytime someone dies in a situation like this, its a sad thing to have to deal with.
