The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Board set Tuesday, May 27th for several amendments to the 2014 fiscal year budget including an increase of $36,000 in public safety for inmate care at the Greene County Jail and another $5,000 was added to the conservation department expenses.
The Board approved authorizing deputy auditor Billie Jo Hoskins as the signatory for the county’s substance abuse grant program and allowing the county’s revenue purpose statement in regards to how the county spends its Local Option Sales and Services Tax funds was approved to be put on the November general election ballot.
The Board also approved the county treasurer’s investment report for April of $5,970,263.32 and issuing 330 driver’s licenses for the same month.
The Board approved its service agreement with the Iowa State Association of Counties to revise its Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act policies at a cost of $1,750 for training and those policies will become effective July 1, 2014.
Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer gave an update to the Board. He talked about the downtown clean up day that is happening on Saturday, May 17th and reported that the Iowa Department of Transportation is talking with Fort Dodge Asphalt about overlaying Clark Street down by the little league fields and he said that project should be started in a couple of weeks. He also reported that they are working to begin a steering committee to figure out details about establishing a new animal shelter for the county in Jefferson.
During the open forum, Steve Zimmerman of Scranton talked to the Board about part of his land taking on substantial amount of water and requested the Board to clean out the ditch area to allow for better drainage. Chair John Muir said they would reassess the situation before making a decision.
Also during the open forum, MeLinda Madsion of “A Token of Love” requested from the Board to re-establish their proclamation in support of organ donor awareness and wanted to use the courthouse grounds to host her second annual event later this year. The Supervisors allowed her to be put on their agenda to take an official vote on both requests.
Finally, the Board gave permission to Dave Briggs of Dadd’s Landscaping to complete the landscaping around the Mahanay Bell Tower with various flowers and other plants with the cost to come from the county.
