national weather serviceFor the second time in the last four days, parts of Greene County were issued a tornado warning.

A little before 9:30 last night, southeastern portion of Greene County including Rippey and Grand Junction area were issued a tornado warning by the National Weather Service.

During Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team coverage, Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert observed pea-sized hail going through Cooper on his way to Rippey.  Dispatchers at the Law Enforcement Center sent out weather spotters to Rippey and Grand Junction but reported no rotation of any tornadic activity was reported while the warning was in effect.

In fact, the only reported damage in the county, according to the dispatch unit, was a couple of power outages in Rippey.

But Sheriff Haupert reported that there was so much rain that it was difficult to see where he was on the road and it was only until lightning lit up the sky enough that he discover water going over the roadway.

He reminds everyone that during severe storms, potential for flash flooding and water going over the roadway can happen and he urges everyone to pull over to the side of the road if your vision is obstructed by rain because there are low-laying areas that could be flooded very easily.
