The regular season for Greene County High School’s golf teams is nearing an end. The Greene County boys play at 4 p.m. today at the Ames Golf & Country Club vs. Gilbert and Roland-Story (Story City) in their final meet of the regular season. A boys’ dual meet vs. Ballard (Huxley) scheduled for the Lakeside Golf Course northwest of Grand Junction was weathered out.
The Greene County girls play North Polk (Alleman) on the TCI course near Polk City on Tuesday, May 13 to end their regular season. The girls played in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet on May 7 in Boone at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course. Greene County was seventh among seven teams with a team score. Coach Keith Vander Wilt’s team shot 581 with Rahaf Ruby leading the Rams with an 18-hole score of 134. Kate Larson shot 141, followed by Lakota Larson 147, and Kelsey Buenz 159.
Nevada won the HOIAC girls’ golf tournament title with 375 strokes. R-S was second, followed by NP, South Hamilton (Jewell), PCM (Monroe), Gilbert, and the Rams. Colfax-Mingo had only two golfers and it takes four for a team score. Saydel (Des Moines) and CMB (Maxwell) had no entries.
Also cancelled on Thursday was the Ballard Bomber boys’ track & field meet scheduled for Huxley. Greene County’s boys were to have been in that meet.
