Since they are the beginning and end points of the race, Jefferson and Des Moines are the two cities getting the most attention for tomorrow’s 2nd annual Market to Market Relay.
However, the City of Panora will also be one of the runner exchange points, and Chamber Secretary Maureen Lubeck says she’s excited to welcome to town the more than 2,400 runners currently signed up for the event.
“It’s going to be a fabulous day and the weather is going to be perfect. The Panora exchange point is at Hometown Foods, just east of Guthrie County State Bank on the bike trail. We are going to have some hyped music, and Hometown Foods is going to have a grill with burgers, brats and hot dogs.”
As runners funnel in and out of Panora, Lubeck says the Panora Police Department along with her 10 event volunteers will help play the role of traffic patrol. She says runners are expected to pass through Panora anytime between 9am and about noon tomorrow.
Though there are many activities going on in Panora this weekend, Lubeck says she hopes to see area residents get out and support the runners as they pass through town.
“The highlight for runners is to see spectators along the course cheering them on and giving them high fives, letting them know that their efforts are worth while. If any spectators that want to come and observe the fun event (Saturday), that would be wonderful.”
The Market to Market Relay will also pass through a couple other Guthrie County towns tomorrow, those being Herndon and Yale. Shortly after runners then pass through Panora, they will venture over to nearby towns Linden and Redfield.
