The ADM baseball season gets underway in just a couple of days, as the Tigers will hit the diamond for their first practices of the season on Monday.
It’s been a little more than nine months since ADM’s tough-to-swallow, 4-3 sub-state final loss to Boone last year, and head coach Jason Book says he’s eager to get things going.
“Oh man, after the way last season ended, I’ve been thinking about this day pretty much every day since then… it’s been too long.”
For Coach Book, the length of this offseason has been particularly painful, as he admits, it took a long time to move on from the season-ending defeat that capped off a terrific season.
“None of those kids and I will ever be over it, but you come to terms with it. We tip our caps to Boone, they did exactly what they had to do win the game… we just couldn’t finish. This year we’re going to play every game to the last out.”
In that sub-state final against the Toreadors, ADM took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning before Boone scored four runs in the bottom half to win it.
As Coach Book looks to help his team regroup from that loss, he says he’s excited for this season’s fresh start… and he should be. The Tigers return a ton of talent from last year’s team that won the Raccoon River Conference, and expectations are high once again for this summer ahead.
