The Perry High School has been selected for an athletic grant to help purchase protective equipment.
The Bluejay football team was awarded $1,000 to help offset the cost of equipment. The funds come from the California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant program.
CEO Beau Brown established the national grant program three years ago in honor of his father who was a lifelong athlete and sportsman, in light of shrinking state education budgets and diminishing funds for athletics.
In order to qualify, grant applicants need to be an active employee at the public high school for which the funding is sought and a current member of the state education association.
Perry is one of two Iowa schools chosen to receive a portion of the $100,000 in total funds.
