About a month ago, West Central Valley’s new athletic complex situation looked bleak.
District officials were scratching their heads in confusion as to how their only one year-old football field and track could be in such poor condition.
Fast forward to today, and that situation is much improved. Now, not all problems are fixed and significant issues remain in need of attention, but the football field is usable. In fact, West Central Valley’s remaining home soccer matches will be moved to the new complex starting tomorrow.
Athletic director Tod Broman says the recent improvement in the athletic complex’s playing surface is a real “shot in the arm for West Central Valley athletics.”
“It is a real morale boost… it is just going to be great for everybody around because it will be better facilities and more conducive to actually watching an athletic event.”
For Broman, the most important topic of discussion that has come up pertaining to the issues at the new complex is player safety. He is sure the girls will have a “safe” playing surface tomorrow.
“The company that actually did the dirt work for the complex, they brought a crew up here and rented a roller, where they took it out on the field and rolled the sidelines and the playing surface… so that smoothed out the surface considerably. I basically got the go-ahead from my Superintendent yesterday because he was just really impressed with how the field looked, so the field is ready to go.”
The girls’ JV/Varsity soccer doubleheader begins at 5pm tomorrow on the new field. West Central Valley takes on Tri-Center.
