More athletes from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area were involved in the Drake Relays on Saturday, the final day of the multi-day event. Drake Stadium was home to some outstanding weather and outstanding performances throughout the week including Saturday.
The high school girls’ 4 x 400 meter relay from ADM High School finished sixth in a time of 4:01.56 with Torrie Hook, Brianna Mueller, Regan Engleman, and Kari Dufoe. Tate Jensen of ADM finished sixth in the 400 meter low hurdles for boys. He was clocked in 55.91 seconds.
The Greene County girls were thirteenth in the shuttle hurdle relay preliminary on Saturday morning. The Rams fell over the hurdles twice within a few seconds of the second leg and were timed in 1:16.12, but they were not last in the 16-team field due to the disqualification of three teams. Running for Greene County were Eme Johnson, Sarah Sandage, Nadia Fisher, and Kate Sandage.
Abbey Murphy of Earlham was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles for high school girls. Murphy covered the distance in 1:06.15.
Thursday and Friday saw other Drake Relays events that included athletes from the listening area as well, but now it’s back to the regular season. Teams have 2-1/2 weeks before State Qualifying Meets on Thursday, May 15 at various sites around the state. The Coed State Meet is May 22-24 back in Des Moines at Drake Stadium.
