A shorthanded boys’ track and field squad from Greene County High School placed fifth among eight teams Thursday at the Tiger-Knight Relays in Carroll. Coach Dean Lansman’s team has battled illness this week, and on top of that, standout sprinter Roman Phillips ran in just two events before an apparent muscle issue forced him to the sideline.
Phillips had the lone event victory for the Rams when he remained undefeated in the 100 meters this season in 11.39 seconds. Greene County had runner-up finishes from Daric Whipple in the 400 meter low hurdles in a personal best time of 58.69 seconds, and from Alex Rasmussen in the discus throw at 132′ 4″.
Carroll won the boys’ team race with 125 points with Harlan second at 117 and Boone third with 110. Atlantic had 78 points with 61.5 for the Rams, 52.5 for Denison-Schleswig, 36 from Kuemper Catholic, and 29 points for Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.
Harlan easily won the girls’ team title. Greene County had only its boys’ team competing on Thursday night.
