We are less than two weeks away from Greene County’s Relay for Life event that’s scheduled on Saturday, April 26th.

With so many changes to this year’s event including a time change to the day time from 9:30am-2:30pm, another big change was online registration.

Relay Teams Chair Jane Nelson says 19 teams and 136 participants have signed up.  She points out that a challenge with online registration has been getting the older generations who aren’t familiar with computers to overcome that obstacle for those who wanted to participate.

Nelson comments that the county libraries have been instrumental in helping to alleviate that issue.  She states that she expects to see several young people and families sign up the day of the Saturday event, knowing that with the time change should help to bring in those groups of people.

She talks about why she continues to be involved in supporting Relay for Life.

“It took me a while to become involved.  I lost my husband to cancer and I just felt the cause was very important and I obviously would like to see more going on in research so that my family doesn’t have to worry about what happens if you get cancer.”
