Volunteers are needed to help find out what areas of Perry need improvement so that local kids can walk to school safety.
Perry Elementary has been selected to participate in the I-WALK Safe Routes to School Program. The goal is to find solutions to help encourage kids to walk and bike to school safely.
On Monday, volunteers are need to help identify gaps in infrastructure that could be barriers for children who travel to school on foot or by bike. The al day event starts at 9am at the McCreary Community Building, though volunteers can also choose to participate in only the morning or afternoon session. To RSVP CLICK HERE.
The program also aims to implement a walking school bus and volunteers are needed to help supervise. This spring 3rd through 5th grade students are trying out the walking school bus concept and routes will be expanded this fall based on student and parent interest. A link to the application can be found HERE.
HyVee has donated box lunches for the first 25 volunteers to sign up.
