The weekend might be upon us, folks, but with this weekend in particular, we better get reading.
Tomorrow marks National Drop Everything and Read Day, which essentially kicks off National Library Week. Mary Barnett Library Director Pat Sleister talks about what her library will be doing to celebrate in the week ahead.
“We try to cram in as much as we can in there… We’ve got cribbage on Monday. On Tuesday, we’ll be showing the movie ‘Frozen’. And on Wednesday, we’ll have bridge in the morning, and then on Thursday there is an early out at school so we’ll have crafts for all the elementary kids. Also, all week we will be having a book sale.”
Sleister has been part of the library in Guthrie Center for the past 24 years, so for her, National Library Week has some added significance. She explains what her library tries to get accomplished in the community.
“We just want to be here for everybody equally. We want to provide services that people need. We want this to be a community living room where people come to do what they need to do here. It’s not just books anymore, it is a whole lot more than that, and we just want to be here for everyone.”
National Library Week will run until next Saturday, April 19th.
