2014 Jefferson City CouncilLast night’s Jefferson City Council meeting was one of the shortest in history, lasting only 16 minutes.

The Council renewed its three-year, 100% tax abatement for any property value improvement for any properties in the City under the Urban Revitalization Plan.

The Council also approved the City’s insurance policy with Unger Insurance for $136,484 for the next fiscal year and a contract with Durlam Electric to install new heating and cooling units on the roof of the Greene County Community Center at a cost of $19,800.  City Administrator Mike Palmer told the Council that payment for those replacements would come from hotel/motel tax and funds from PACE.

The Council approved a lease with Doc’s Stadium, LLC for the alleyway to have the existing wood fence replaced with the iron wing fence to match the rest of the downtown square.  City Attorney Bob Schwarzkopf said in order to avoid having a public meeting to approve the lease, the Council had to approve to temporarily close the alley which is what they did.

City Engineer John Milligan reported to the Council that King Construction has started to replace water mains around Hy-Vee Incorporated’s property on North Vine and Adams streets.
