The Greene County Historical Society will be kicking off its free monthly events later this week with two programs.

Member Chuck Offenburger says their theme this year is “Telling our stories”.

On Friday, April 4th at the Cooper United Methodist Church, former owner of the Jefferson Bee and Herald Rick Morain will talk about preserving family stories and the importance of documentation to provide records of your family’s past.  The free program will start at 1pm.

Then on Sunday, April 6th at 2:30pm at the historical museum in Jefferson, professional actor Tom Milligan from Des Moines will be presenting a one-person play on “Grant Wood-Prairie Rebel”.  Offenburger notes that Milligan will be dressed up like the famous Iowa artist which follows his previous performance last summer in Jefferson when he portrayed former United States Vice-President and Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace.

For Sunday’s program, historical society president Ces Brunow is asking for anyone who has Grant Wood artworks and would like to display them at the museum for that day or longer, to contact the museum at 386-8544.

Both programs are free and open to the public.
