Guthrie Co. CourthouseThe Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in the first of their bi-weekly sessions.

Phil Littler and Tony Padden of the Diamondhead Lake Sanitary District began the meeting by addressing the Supervisors with an update on a sewage improvement project they’ve been looking to start for the past couple of years.

The project, which they hope to open up bidding for on May 1st, will eliminate one of the sewage lines currently lying on the lake bed, and it would also reduce the number of sewage lift stations at Diamondhead Lake from eight to seven.  The new sewage system would take 60% of the lake homes’ generated sewage and pump it away from the lake, according to Littler.

The Supervisors agreed to consider paying the bonds that will be used to pay for the project, which is estimated to cost around $450,000, though Littler says the project costing $500,000 is “not out of the realm of possibility.”

Depending on how the bidding process goes in early May, Padden and Littler are optimistic the sewage project could be completed this year.  Littler says the project is the sanitary district’s way of “trying to take care of the lake.”

Next, County Auditor Jerri Christman asked the Supervisors to consider approving the county’s union settlement agreement.  The Board approved the agreement by a 4 to 1 vote, with Supervisor Mike Dickson the lone dissenter.

To conclude the meeting, the Supervisors briefly discussed the bylaws of the Raccoon River Watershed Management Authority.  The Board did ratify a resolution for the Middle South Raccoon Watershed with a 3 to 2 vote, with Supervisors Clifford Carney and Mike Dickson providing the “nays.”
