The turkey vultures have returned in Perry and the City is hoping this is the last spring they have to deal with them.
As we’ve reported, the City Council approved purchase of decoy birds at a recent meeting, along with permit applications to harvest live birds in hope that their carcasses will help deter the vultures from roosting here.
City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says one of the decoys is on the water tower and the others will likely be placed in a tree. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department gave the city permission to kill five of the protected birds this spring. The carcasses should be hung up in trees along Warford Street this week.
