Two Ames residents are being held in the Dallas County jail after a police chase that started in Perry early Saturday.

According to the Perry Police Department, officer Matt Aswegan attempted to stop a red Chevy pickup that was speeding eastbound on Highway 141 shortly after midnight Saturday.

The driver of the vehicle, 24 year-old Kelsey Robertson, failed to stop and a high speed chase began.  Officers from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Madrid Police, Story County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol followed the truck through all three counties before it was eventually disabled and stopped.

After further investigation, officers found that Robertson and 40 year-old passenger Terry Seronko were in possession of stolen copper wire that was taken from an ITC substation near the City of Perry.

Both adults were arrested.  Robertson is charged with 2nd degree theft, 2nd degree criminal mischief, 3rd degree burglary, eluding, two counts of child endangerment, trespassing and driving with a suspended license, along with three speeding citations. She is being held in the Dallas County jail on a $5,000 bond.

Seronko faces charges of 2nd degree theft, 2nd degree criminal mischief, 3rd degree burglary, trespassing, child endangerment and permitting an unauthorized person to drive. He also remains in jail with bond set at $15,000.

The two minor children that were in the vehicle during the chase are now in the Department of Human Services’ custody.
