Working is underway at the Jefferson Municipal Pool.
At a City Council meeting last November, the Council approved purchasing two filters from ACCO Unlimited Corporation and replacement of the cast iron pipes that feed into the filters at a cost of $82,556.63.
It was discovered that the previous filters were 27 years-old and the legs that the filters sat on were rusted through.
After the Council approved the purchase, Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner ordered the filters and ACCO has been doing demolition of the old filters and replacing all the piping earlier this month.
She talks about when they anticipate to have the pool open by and what their plans will be right before that date.
“The day to get the pool open is Memorial Day weekend and we are way ahead of schedule for that. So we hope to have the pool filled a couple of weeks before that just so we make sure there’s no leaks, everything’s working properly so we can open on Memorial Day weekend.”
The funds for the replacement filters will be coming out of the City’s budget, however, the Greene County Community Foundation awarded $10,000 in grant money to the parks and recreation department and Lautner adds they will be applying those funds to help offset some of the money that the Council is using for the improvements to the pool.
