The Greene County High School Coed Early Bird track and field meet was stopped on Monday around 7 p.m. at Linduska Field in Jefferson with five boys events and five girls events remaining. This was the first meet of the outdoor season for the participating teams and Mother Nature let everyone know she isn’t quite done with frigid temperatures and high winds. The temperature was 73 degrees at the 4:30 p.m. start, but just 40 with a wind chill of 28 when the meet was halted.

The Greene County teams were joined by CMB (Maxwell), Guthrie Center, Manson-Northwest Webster, Paton-Churdan, Woodward-Granger, and Southeast Webster-Grand (Burnside). No team score was kept, but the Greene County girls won seven of the 14 events and had five second place finishes. The Rams won three boys’ events.

Winning for the Greene County girls were:

3,000 meter run- Allison Higgins, 12:02.96; 4 x 800 meter relay- 11:56.23 (Olivia Hansen, Jolee Wessling, Emily Christensen, Taylor Wessling); shuttle hurdle relay- 1:10.50 (Eme Johnson, Sarah Sandage, Nadia Fisher, Kate Sandage); 400 meter dash- Hansen, 1:07.25; 800 m run- Christensen, 2:43.30; high jump- Fisher, 4′ 6″; discus throw- Hannah Onken, 118′ 6″.

Woodward-Granger’s Abby Musser won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.26 seconds.

Victories for the Greene County boys were in the:

100 meter dash- Roman Phillips, 11.63; shuttle hurdle relay- 1:04.90 (Dylan McConnell, Joe Doran, Tyler Beger, Daric Whipple); discus throw- Alex Rasmussen, 138′ 7″.

W-G won the boys’ 4 x 800 meter relay in 9:21.90.

Guthrie Center and Paton-Churdan did not win any events.
