Greene County residents interested in learning more about severe weather and how to report signs of it can attend a free weather spotter training course in Jefferson later this week.
Greene County Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Dennis Morlan says the class will be held at the Jefferson City Hall Council Chamber at 7pm on Wednesday, April 2nd.
He comments that due to budget restraints, the National Weather Service will only hold a weather spotter training class every other year and so it will be 2016 until the class is offered again.
Morlan recommends this class to everyone, especially the county fire departments, emergency medical personnel and law enforcement to stay up-to-date on their severe weather training.
“They put together an outstanding program so that our spotters know exactly what to look for when we do send them out for spotting purposes. Our people work extremely hard in order to maintain their certifications and to become good volunteers for the citizens of Greene County.”
It will be hosted by the Jefferson Fire Department with no registration required. Morlan states that the class will be from 7-9pm and is free to anyone who attends.
