Greene County High School freshman Nadia Fisher is looking forward to high school track and field. She’ll make her debut with the high school girls’ team on Friday, March 21 indoors at the Buena Vista University high school meet in Storm Lake. A high jumper and hurdler, Fisher said she’s looking forward to the higher level of competition. “It’s more about the team. We get after it more than in middle school and we do a lot more things, and it’s nice because we’ll be a lot better shape when it comes time to actually run at the track meets.”
She has a goal of clearing 5′ 0″ this season, which may happen early on, since set broke the eighth grade girls’ record last season at 4′ 11-3/4″. Higher than the five-feet level would be fine with her as well, but clearing 5′ 0″ is a major goal of Fisher’s as she begins the season. On the track, she wants to run in the top 10 flight shuttle hurdle relay. Kate Sandage, Sarah Sandage, and Eme Johnson return for the Greene County shuttle unit that placed fifth in Class 3A at the 2013 state meet. Fisher also thinks she may find herself running the 400 meter hurdles, which is twice as far as the 200 meter hurdles used on the middle school level.
The Rams are scheduled to open the outdoor track and field season on Monday, March 31 at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Greene County Early Bird Meet.
