There have been a couple of reported incidents where vehicles have been taken without the owner’s consent recently in Jefferson.
Police Chief Dave Morlan says the most recent incident was on Friday, March 7th, someone stole Tom Danielson’s 2001 Chevrolet truck from behind a business at 216 East State Street and it was returned on Sunday, March 9th with an unknown amount of damage to the vehicle.
In each case, the owner left their vehicle unlocked with the keys inside.
Morlan reminds everyone that one of the best ways to prevent anyone from stealing your vehicle is to lock it up.
“Anytime that you leave your vehicle or to go anyplace make sure all valuables are out of sight, make sure the keys are taken out of the ignition and make sure you lock your vehicle up so that no one can get in there and take stuff while you’re gone.”
He urges everyone to do the same when you leave your house and requests that if anyone sees any suspicious activity with vehicles or with homes, to call the Law Enforcement Center at 386-2136.
