imagesThe ADM girls track team has one meet in the books, and the Tigers are back in action today for an indoor competition at Iowa State.

Looking back on last week’s opener, head coach Bart Mueller says he was pleased with how his girls’ performed in what he termed a measuring-stick meet of sorts.

“It was just good to see where we’re at.  Some things weren’t as good as I know they can be, but other things… our 4×400 placing second up there against a lot of 4-A teams was a good sign to start out the year.  And our 4×200, even running 1:51 at this point in the year, obviously we want to get down into the 1:47 range, but this early in the year to already be at 1:51 is a pretty good sign.  So, I thought some good things happened.”

Mueller voiced a similar sentiment about one of his individual athletes.  Sprint star Kari Dufoe finished fifth in the 60 meter dash last week against some of the top competition in the state, and while the time (8.07 sec) was great, Mueller feels it could have been better.

“She went against the Roosevelt girls and a Davenport girl and I know they’re some of the top sprinters around, and she competed–getting 5th in that 60 is just really impressive.  But she actually didn’t have a real good start, so that tells you that with a good start in a race like that, a couple tenths of second difference and she could have been second or third very easily just by (making) some adjustments.”

Coach Mueller says he was also happy with the season-opening performance from his daughter, Brianna.  Her 800 time of 2:25 this early in the season puts her about a month ahead of where she was at this time last year.
