Paton-Churdan girls’ basketball sophomore Carleigh Paup has received all-state recognition for her play during the recently completed season. She was selected by the magazine and website from Iowa Sports Spotlight on the second team in Class 1A, and was a third team selection by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. She told Raccoon Valley Radio the all-state recognition is exciting and it will motivate her to push herself to be an even better player.
The Rockets had their first winning season since 2005-06 at 15 wins and eight losses. Paup averaged 22.8 points per game as the point guard and that ranked fourth among Class 1A players. She also ranked fifth in steals in 1A at 116 for the season.
Paton-Churdan had just one senior on the team, so the future could be bright for Paup and her teammates.
