We heard from star point guard Logan Essy yesterday as he reflected on his final season on the hardwood for the ADM Tigers, but even though his basketball career is over, his athletic career at the school is not.
Essy will be the Tigers’ starting catcher on the baseball diamond this summer, and expectations for the ADM baseball team are at an all-time high. The Tigers went 29-10 overall last season and won the Raccoon River Conference title. Essy says he wants a taste of even more.
“Our expectations this year are to obviously win conference again, go undefeated in conference, win sub-state and win the state championship. We’ve got enough guys and the talent that we can do it.”
When asked what will be the biggest key for ADM in its quest for a state baseball title this season, Essy says it comes down to attitude.
“Baseball is a game where you can kind of get down some days and not want to show up and play because it’s such a long season with so many games. We definitely need to get it in everyone’s head that we need to come to play everyday, get better everyday, just play as a team by believing in each other and trusting each other. We definitely have the talent to win one.”
Essy believes improved hitting will also go a long way for the Tigers if they’re going to accomplish such a lofty goal. ADM hit .299 as a team last season. As for Essy himself, he is coming off an all-conference campaign a year ago in which he led the Tigers with a .442 batting average.
The ADM baseball team begins practice for its 2014 season on May 5th. May 26th is Opening Day.
