Guthrie County CourthouseThe Guthrie County Board of Supervisors agreed to table county budget talks yesterday after the four Supervisors present split 2-2 in voting for approval.

Supervisors Clifford Carney and Tom Rutledge voted to approve the fiscal year 2014-2015 budget as presented, while Everett Grasty and Mike Dickson voted against it.  Jerome Caraher was not present for the public budget hearing, so the Supervisors will vote again tomorrow morning at 10am assuming Caraher is in attendance.

As currently constructed, the proposed budget for the new fiscal year beginning July 1st calls for property taxes to increase for both urban and rural property owners.  Property taxes levied on urban property would increase from about $5.27 to $5.33 per thousand dollars of valuation, while the taxes levied on rural property would increase from about $7.47 to $7.81 per thousand dollars of valuation.

In all, property taxes in Guthrie County would be raised just over $200,000 for the next fiscal year.  Supervisor Carney says approximately $150,000 of those taxes will be used to fund bridge construction and update projects in the county.

In addition, the proposed budget also calls for cuts to many county department budgets for the coming fiscal year.

We’ll have more county budget follow up after the Supervisors’ vote again tomorrow.
