Guthrie Center little league football will have $2,500 to use at its disposal this upcoming season after receiving the charitable donation from an area resident.
Local farmer Brian Sheeder was recently selected as Guthrie County’s winner by Monsanto’s “America’s Farmers Grow Communities,” a program that gives eligible farmers in 1,289 counties across 39 states the chance to win a $2,500 donation for a nonprofit of their choice.
Sheeder tells Raccoon Valley Radio he selected Guthrie Center little league football because his son is just about to start playing in the league, and he wanted to help participants have newer supplies and equipment for the season ahead.
According to a release from the Guthrie Center Schools, the purpose of the Grow Communities program is “to recognize and celebrate the important contributions farmers make to rural America.” More than 82,000 farmers across the country participated in the program this year, with a winning farmer selected in each eligible county.
